cassie's tech:
hello! I also have a huge interest in technology. I love tearing them down, repairing them, and collecting them in my spare time. below you'll find some of my repairs and pictures of my collection.... and hey, Apple... if you're hiring....

iMac 21.5” (Late 2013)

Disassembled for the following upgrades:

  • 1TB SATA SSD + 512GB PCIe SSD

  • 16GB of DDR3 1600Mhz RAM, originally 8GB

  • Cleaned old thermal paste off and replaced with high-efficency thermal paste

  • Dusted fans and boards to remove dust build-up over the last 8 years of use

Planned upgrades:

  • Upgrade the Core i5 CPU to Core i7

  • Replace the cracked display

iPhone 6 Plus (2014)

Disassembled for replacements:

  • Originally a gold 16GB iPhone 6 Plus with a cracked display and non-functioning TouchID and back camera

  • Replaced the white front screen with a black front screen

  • Replaced the gold housing with a custom black and gold housing

  • Replaced the back camera

  • Replaced the battery

The TouchID is still non-functioning but the home button itself does still physically work. Eventually, the logic board will be replaced along with a matching home button to restore functionality (and upgrade the storage from 16GB).

iPhone 7 (2016)

Disassembled for replacements:

  • Originally a matte black 32GB iPhone 7 with a completely shattered and unusable screen.

  • Replaced the screen, though unfortunately snapped the home button’s TouchID cable when swapping the components from the old screen to the new one

  • Replaced the battery to solve the random reboot issue

Eventually, the logic board will be replaced with the matching home button to restore functionality of TouchID.... and home button usage, due to this phone not having a physical home button.

below is my (almost) complete collection; some not pictured.

iPhone 6S Plus (2015)

Disassembled for diagnosis:

  • One iPhone 6S Plus was fully functional with zero issues and is in flawless condition, though had a battery replacement

  • The other iPhone 6S Plus was fully functional but recently stopped powering on. The battery was replaced as it had been failing prior

  • Swapping the logic boards between the phones (and the screens for the matching home button), the second iPhone’s logic board still did not power on, which leads me to believe it is not an issue with the battery, but with the logic board or the dock connector

Planned for future diagnosis:

  • Swap the dock connector to test if the second iPhone’s charging port is faulty

  • Inspect the second iPhone’s logic board to check for any corrosion or possible damage

iPod Generation 2 (2002)

This iPod is in almost flawless condition, aside from the few scratches on the back (the picture does not do it justice). The screen has no issues and the clickwheel functions as it is supposed to. The battery life could be improved, but given it’s 20 years old, it’s not bad.It lasts around 3 hours on a single charge. The flap covering the firewire port is flimsy and looks like it may break and fall off at any time due to the wear and tear.

Planned upgrades:

  • Replace the battery
